Dr Kate Boardman

Background experience

I am a Clinical Psychologist specialising in the field of Neuropsychology with over 16 years of experience. Before qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, I worked in primary care mental health services, delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions for adults with depression and anxiety disorders. I hold postgraduate qualifications in Advanced Practice Interventions for Mental Health and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Since qualifying in 2016, I have gained specialist academic credentials and extensive experience in Clinical Neuropsychology. In my current role at Salford Royal Hospital, I conduct comprehensive neuropsychological assessments, neurorehabilitation, and therapeutic interventions for individuals with traumatic brain injuries, neurological conditions (including epilepsy, stroke, tumour, encephalitis, Tourette’s syndrome), and neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and various dementias). I have significant expertise in working with patients facing chronic and life-altering diagnoses and injuries.
Within the NHS, my special interests include epilepsy and neuro-oncology. I routinely assess patients pre- and post-surgery and perform intraoperative assessments during awake craniotomies. I also provide specialist therapeutic input for patients with functional neurological disorders, such as non-epileptic attack disorder and dissociative seizures.
In my private practice, I conduct comprehensive neuropsychological and mental capacity assessments to guide clinical practice, rehabilitation planning, parole board evaluations, and court of protection cases. I provide cognitive rehabilitation, behaviour and personality management, education, support, and therapy for issues related to adjustment, anger, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
I have a strong research background, having contributed to a large multi-site randomized controlled trial on collaborative interventions for patients with chronic physical health conditions and depression in partnership with The University of Manchester. Additionally, I teach and supervise doctoral trainees on Northwest clinical psychology training programs.
