Dr Rachel Donohue

Background experience

I have worked within the field of Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology since 2008 across NHS, private and third sector services. I am skilled in completing neuropsychological assessments to contribute to diagnosis, prognosis and the rehabilitation approach. I have worked within a vocational rehabilitation setting, supporting adults to return to work following acquired brain injury.

In my current NHS role I provide Clinical Neuropsychology input for a Community Stroke and Neuro Rehab Team which supports patients with a broad range of neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, tumour, and Parkinson’s disease amongst others. My role involves neuropsychological assessment, assessment of mental capacity, cognitive rehabilitation and psychological therapy to support emotional adjustment for patients and their families. I am also experienced in the management of changes to personality and behaviour within residential and community settings. I draw upon a range of evidence based psychological therapies when working with adults with neurological conditions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Additionally, I have worked within later life services providing psychological therapy focused around issues which can commonly present in older age, such as bereavement, loss of role, and adjustment to physical health changes. I am experienced in utilising neuropsychological assessment to support the differential diagnosis of dementia. I have skills and expertise in post diagnostic support for people with dementia, their families and care settings supporting them.

I have close links with the clinical psychology doctorate training courses, providing teaching and clinical placements.
